As expected, Heroes‘ season premiere (Heroes Volume 3) picked up from where it stopped. But the show has been away for so long that I’m not sure it’s relevant anymore. Before the writers’ strike, Heroes was one of the main reasons to watch prime time TV. When NBC stopped airing the show we had to find other things to watch instead, and we found. Medium, Dexter, Weeds, Mad Men and a few more showed that good TV can be done even without Hiro Nakamura.
Heroes is still a decent and watchable show, and I was pleased that last night’s episode was more eventful then the last 10 episodes of the first season together, but I would lose the ridiculous countdown-to-the-event show. It’s not New Years.

Tonight marks the return of the only show on TV that can possibly make the writers’ strike feel a bit less painful for all of us. Where we left off last season, Through the Looking Glass, we saw a glimpse of what the future held for both Jack and Kate after they returned from the island and reclaimed at least a piece of their former lives. Notice, I conveniently left off the inclusion of “selves” in the previous sentence. That is because the future was not so bright for Jack as he seemed unable to reconcile his past with his present, or rather, future as the case may be.
SPOILER ALERT!
A preview of tonight’s episode, eerily titled, The Beginning of the End which starts at 8/9 PM picks up where last season ended with Jack and Kate rejoicing in their preeminent rescue (and the thought of seeing other people aside from the rest of the incestuous crew perhaps) and with others like Ben and Locke who are not quite so excited by the prospect of getting off the island and getting back to their former lives. To throw a wrench into all of this, Desmond rejoins the group and bears a dying message from Charlie that the rescuers might be up to no good.
Be sure to stay tuned for the Amaldo post-Lost show, er, um, blog post.

Showtime ushered in a new season of the hit show Weeds. Unlike last season’s climatic season opener, Season 3 opened with more of a whimper (with the exception of the episode’s ending, which is a must-watch), but also a reminder of what we’ve come to love about this show since it began - flawed, f*cked up characters, funny dialogue, and ridiculous, brilliantly-timed comedic situations. Sure, it’s no Office but watching Elizabeth Perkin’s husband bond with Kevin Nealon (who incidentally had an affair with Perkins last season) over mud facial masks and genital size comparisons isn’t without its merit. Not to mention that Mary-Louise Parker is my doppelganger, or so some have told me.
Stay tuned for a brand spanking new season of Weeds on Showtime, airing Mondays at 10 PM.
