How Much Would You Pay For A Piece Of Steve Jobs?

By Beth in iPhone, TV, quirky newsbits, business, Tech, pop culture, Web 2.0, America, Apple on June 27 2007

iphone.jpgApple’s new iPhone is set to be released on Friday, June 29th, but that hasn’t stopped people from starting to stake out their place in line outside Apple stores. Or at the very least get their business and financial matters out of the way in time to reserve a person for an all-day wait on Friday. In NYC, people are getting paid on average $250 for an all-day wait (from 8 AM). In California, human resource commodity prices are as high as $300-400. Even considering that iPhones will be the next XBox/Playstation craze in eBay sales going forward, $250 is a hefty price tag to add to a $600 phone with a $60-100/mo. Cingular plan.

Prison Agrees With Paris Hilton

By Beth in Uncategorized, Entertainment, quirky newsbits, Hollywood, pop culture, media, celebrity, Paris Hilton, gossip on June 26 2007

paris_hilton2.jpgParis Hilton disproves the theory that she’s all high-maintainance plastic. Or maybe she is. She just looks better post-prison stay with a “natural” glow, less time with the hair extensions, and an ounce of fat on her. Either way, I’m happy for her.

Reg’s Musical Musings: City Stages & Bonnaroo 2008

By Beth in Music, folk, Classic Rock, indie, acoustic, Amaldo.Com, pop culture, Alternative Rock, quirky newsbits, Reg's Musical Musings on June 24 2007

How was Bonarroo? You went didn’t you? Oh, if I had a dime for every time I have been asked that question I would be adding on to my house next week. But alas, I did not go this year. As a matter of fact, I didn’t go last year. Don’t get me wrong, I love The Roo and I miss it dearly but since they moved their dates to the same weekend as my beloved hometown festival City Stages (www.citystages.org).

City Stages is no Bonarroo, it doesn’t pretend to be. At the same time, City Stages is something Bonarroo isn’t, it is a celebration of civic pride and a way for a town plagued by it’s ghosts and the sins of our fathers, to show the world that this isn’t the city some in our country think it is. While I missed seeing the incredible music at The Roo (Except for The Police. I have talked to a few dozen folks who attended and inevitably the first thing out of their mouth’s is “The Police sucked!” That’s a shame. I will just keep my memories of the Ghost In The Machine tour and avoid their latest incarnation.). I did get to see a city rally to show how much it cares about a festival that in its 19 year history has had its ups and downs but continues to prove its relevance to Birmingham. Read More…

Why Boston Is The Best City To Live In On Earth

By Beth in Uncategorized, News, Quotes, Amaldo.Com, quirky newsbits, Boston on May 31 2007

Idea for post inspired by Boing Boing. Actual link credit: Boston.com. Post-Read Commentary: Priceless.

In a scene reminiscent of the Cartoon Network bomb scare that paralyzed the Boston area in January, police shut down a strip mall yesterday in this small western suburb after employees at a Bank of America branch mistook a botched fax for a bomb threat.

Frustrated shop owners said the branch overreacted to the strange fax, which turned out to be an in-house marketing document sent by the bank’s corporate office.

“The women at the bank should have handled it a little better,” said Nick Markos, owner of Townhouse Pizza and Roast Beef, who estimated that he had lost $1,000 to $1,200 because of the lunch-hour evacuation. “She blew it all out of proportion, and all of us business owners had to pay for it.”

Amaldo.Com Cast: It’s All “Lost” On Me

By Beth in Uncategorized, ABC, Lost, Amaldo.Com, quirky newsbits, podcast, season finale on May 27 2007

In this week’s Amaldo.Com podcast, I tackle haiku and fail miserably. The good news is this attempt at poetry spawned a very creative poem entitled, Ode To “Lost” Season Two: I Didn’t Want To Get Punk’d Or Bent But I Did.” There are quite a few laughs to be had here, for both viewers and non-viewers. I’m hoping J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof take note of my stellar use of creativity here and hire me on as a writer next season…A girl’s gotta have dreams afterall!

Hasselbeck To Call Her Newbie Rosie?

By Beth in Uncategorized, quirky newsbits, comedy, Advertising, ABC, 30 Rock on April 30 2007

“The View” is all about public announcements these days. How is it that a show whose premise is gossiping yentas unleashing every private, intimate detail fosters an environment of explicit candor? In short, why do people bother hiring publicists if they are just gonna go on “The View” and tell all? And what’s with all the announcements?

Last week Rosie O’Donnell made public her news that she was leaving the show. On Friday, Alec Baldwin said he wants out of his show and now Elizabeth Hasselbeck is expecting a child and wants the world to know she loves Rosie O’Donnell, even if the two represent ardently oppositional political camps.

Did we mention Hasselbeck’s pregnancy is another slated “announcement” on “The View” today?

The Greatest Living American Is Not Amaldo

By Beth in Uncategorized, America, Google, quirky newsbits on April 19 2007

It’s Stephen Colbert. Thanks, Comedy Central!

ps I wish I had enough time in my day to think up Googling “Greatest Living American.” I barely have sufficient time to Google my own name in the course of 24 hours! Such is the nature of being such a prolific online writer. You find out the darndest things about yourself!
