Ravens vs. Colts: Who Will Win?

By Beth in Entertainment, CBS, TV, Football, Patriots on January 16 2010

Will the Ravens be tangled up in blue tonight?I, for one, am super psyched by the prospect of the Ravens and Colts going head-to-head duking it out for the AFC championship on national TV tonight. As convinced as I am that Manning will pull through for the Colts (unless they decide to pull out all starters in the 2nd half again), Joe Flacco and his Ravens took the Patriots on a ride last week that ultimately led a once shoo-in team (before Wes Welker got injured) for the playoffs to their demise in a disastrous and humiliating showdown.

Whichever team wins tonight and I hold no favorites on this one, it should make for entertaining football and with football fans only a month away from the end of the season altogether, we take what we can, even when we are pretty ardent Patriots and Steelers fans.

Game time is 8:15 ET on CBS.

Where is the Lov(ie)?

By Beth in sports, TV, Football on December 28 2009

Lovie SmithIn Chicago, where people take their sports teams quite seriously and Da Bears are coming off a 5-9 season, fans are up in arms over the Bears’ losing streak of a season calling for the imminent departure of head coach Lovie Smith. Then again, fans were quick to dismiss former starting QB Rex Grossman and that resulted in his eventually getting traded for Cutler, who in my mind is actually a downgrade. Let’s hope there is some love left for Lovie and that the Bears’ management reconsiders.

Drastic, knee-jerk responses aside, my mind is still a whirl coming off of last night’s Colts game where the undefeated team basically threw the game against the Jets, benching all of their starting players in the second half and succumbing to their first loss of the season against a team that was 7-7. Perhaps the NFL needs to investigate this loss further. I’ve never seen Peyton look so bereft.

Here’s hoping Brett Favre and his Vikings go a long way this season, but maybe tonight they can take a back seat to Lovie.

Vick Is Going Home

By ariel in Uncategorized, Money, America, celebrity, Football, Michael, Vick, Jail, Prison, Dogfights, Home on February 26 2009

So we hear that Michal Vick is going to spend the rest of his jail time at home. ThisMichael Vick thinking of a private shower at home amazing decision comes because  There is no room at a halfway house for him, a government official told The Associated Press. Of course Vick will be under home confinement and will probably be force to finish all of his meals, or he will go to his room, which is much worst then a prison cell. But on the other hand, if he can access his back yard, maybe he can have a dog! Or two, otherwise you can’t really make a dog fight himself right? And if the dog doesn’t fight, you can’t make any money.

Mad Men 2nd Season Premieres Slowly

By ariel in Uncategorized, Entertainment, Advertising, TV, pop culture, media, America, Football, Mad, Men, AMC, Don Draper, Jon Hamm, Matthew Weiner on July 28 2008

Jon Hamm is Don Draper in MAD MENWhenever your spouse starts a sentence with: “This may not be a big deal for you, but….” you will pay attention. So when my dear wife told me on Friday night that “This may not be a big deal for you” I was listening, and then came the relieving second half: “But I really want to watch Mad Men’s season premiere on Sunday.” So we watched it.
Mad Men is a good show, about the advertising world in the early 60’s. We watched the entire first season over one especially boring weekend On Demand. This is the best way to get addicted to a series. After 10 episodes, you got to know the characters and the plot so good, that you feel as if you were a part of the story. Anyway, addicted or not, unfortunately, it seems that Mad Men is going in the same path as many other promising shows, and turning itself into a slow Nothing-is-really-happening-here soap opera. It’s a little disappointing, but hey, we will only follow the show until the Football season begins!

Hollywood’s New Clothes

George Clooney in LeatherheadsI want to know.
I want to know if George Clooney’s ass has some sort of a mythical flavor to it. Because, otherwise, I can’t understand why everyone who is someone in showbiz, have their tongue stuck in there for so long.
We all know Hans Christian Andersen’s tale about The Emperor’s New Clothes, and how the crowd realize the emperor is actually naked only after a small child cries out, “But he has nothing on!” Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry is exactly like that Emperor. They wear George Clooney because they were told that it is the most beautiful cloth, and only those who are smart enough can see it. They even compare him to Cary Grant…. But in the end, you know what; someone, maybe a child, or someone else in the crowd will figure it out and will cry: “But they have nothing on!”
No offense Clooney I really don’t hate you, it’s just thet much ado about nothing around you I dislike.
Have a nice weekend.

Can They Make History?

Superbowl!!! Superbowl!!! After all that’s been said and done, now it’s time to put everything aside.Tonight’s the night.Worried, Bill and Tom Superbowl 42 is Football history in the making. The Giants are no wallflowers, they come to play the NFL biggest game and win. I think the Patriots understand this, but not so much the fans. If both teams play at their best, the Giants will lose, but we can’t count on that. I also think it will all come up to the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, and will be determined by a field goal or a single touchdown.

So for the last time this season GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!

No Jinx Allowed

More Interesting- Tom BradyHillary and Obama

I hate when people put the cart before the horse. The New England Patriots are favorites to win Superbowl 2008 over the New York Giants, with more then 12 points spread. That’s fine by me, and if you want to Eli Manningbet on the game, I’m OK with that too. What I don’t like, is that the city of Boston is already making preparations for the Pat’sJohn Mccain is interesting but not like the Superbowl... victory parade. Excuse me, I am a Pat’s fan and live in Boston, but this parade is what you will find if you open the dictionary in the word Arrogance. Not to mention that they plan the event to take place on Tuesday, that happens to be Super Tuesday, where people are expected, and being encouraged to go and vote in the presidential primary elections. In general, there is too much Non-Football related stuff going on with the Patriots in the last couple of weeks, and the biggest beneficiary are the Giants, who get all the peace and quiet they need. Let’s just hope that all this parade BS will not jinx us, and that the Pat’s will win the game.
I really wanted this post to be about politics, but what can I do, even Boston’s Mayor Menino knows, that Football is more interesting…

They Did It-Part One (?)

Happy Patriots fans predict 16-0
16 and 0 don’t come easy. But last night, after a nerve-racking game, the Pats managed to beat the Giants 38-35, and with that, to break a few records (including 16-0 perfect regular season and 589 points - the most a team has ever made in one season, 50 TD passes by Tom Brady, and Randy Moss broke the TD receptions record) All of that is Yes Randy Moss, you are number one.great, but won’t count for much if the Pats don’t make it to the Superbowl and win it.
But who am I to be a spoiled sport and start worrying about this stuff? Let’s let Bill Belichick deal with that. For now, let’s enjoy some pictures from the victory over the Giants.
Tom Brady breaking a record
So happy together New England Patriots

Why Do They Hate Us?

By ariel in Uncategorized, Entertainment, sports, stereotype, Boston, Football, Tom Brady, Patriots, New England, Pat's, Bill Belichick, Randy Moss on December 14 2007

Belichick, why do they hate us?

In his Yahoo! Sports column, Michael Silver points six reasons why the New England Patriots are so hated.Bad turned good Randy Moss

1. Coach Bill Belichick’s personality.

2. Randy Moss’s bad turned good image.

3. The fact that others think that the Pats see themselves as superior.

4. Dynasty factor.

5. The Spygate scandal BS.

6. The common claim that the Pats have run up the score.

But I think that you can probably sum it all up by saying that everyone roots for the underdog, and the Patriots by all means, are not the underdog, especially not this season.

Michael Vick’s Downfall

Protesters waiting for Vick's sentence

Vick in courtMaybe the last post for a while about the has been Quarterback, inmate to be Michael Vick. He was sentenced to 23 months in prison. For the event Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit. The shame the humiliation, his downfall, is a massage to all those overnight superstars, to take responsibility for their actions.
I would like to end this short post with an old Yiddish saying: Man plans, and God laughs… I’m not sure it’s applicable to Michael Vick’s story, but hey, it’s still a good sentence no?

Along Came Dexter

By ariel in Uncategorized, Entertainment, NBC, Heroes, TV, Showtime, Football, Patriots, Dexter on December 4 2007

DexterAs if I wasn’t watching enough TV, along came Dexter. Watching Monday night television is a complicated mission to accomplish. We watch NBC Chuck, and then Heroes getting less and less interesting while still just as addictive as before, not to mention Monday Night Football (especially if the Patriots ((12-0!!!)) are playing.) So you have to understand, that if it wasn’t for the esthetically designed On Demand button on the remote control, watching shows like Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Dexter on Showtime, would not have been an option for us. But since it’s there, and since we had a couple boring Tuesdays we started following the tales of a Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst, who also happens to be a serial killer, and goes by the name Dexter. Though it may not be the best show on TV, it delivers a great story. And while some of the dialogs are poor and boring, the main character’s monologue supports the plot’s development, and helps in maintaining the suspense. So I’m hooked, again, what can I do? It’s cold outside…

Mike Vick goes to jail

Michael Vick is going to do some time for his Dogfights involvement. And even though he will receive his sentence only on December 10, and he is yet to know how long he will stay in jail after pleading guilty to the charges, he surrendered himself to the U.S. Marshalls Service, so he can cut some time from the end. When he is sentenced, Vick faces up to five years in prison. Maybe it will heal the urge to see animals kill each other.

Hi Colts, No Cheating!!!

Cheating didn't help Peyton against the PatriotsBrady and the Pats worked hard on Sunday Vs. the Colts“I don’t know how you measure levels of being deaf, but we couldn’t hear anything out there.”  No, it’s not a part of a war veteran memoir, nor one of a demolition expert.  This  quote belongs to New England Patriots QB Tom Brady,  talking about the crowd noise on the Sunday game in  the RCA Dome Vs. the Colts.  Yahoo! reports that The NFL is looking into allegations that the local team piped in noise during the game, to help distract opponents when the other team is on offense. From what I hear, it’s not the first time this is happening.  If one rule fits all,  the Colts should be punished  the same way  the Patriots were punished after the ridicules Spygate thing  with the Jets.

Boston Red Sox Do It Again!

REd Sox players celebrate

No, I didn’t go to Kenmore square last night. It was to cold/late/crowded for me to go, so I just set and saw it on TV, forcing my wife to stay awake with me and watching the Red Sox celebrate their rightful earned victory.

It’s been told more then once lately, that it is an exiting time to be a sports fan here in New England. The Patriots are kicking ass, the Bruins and the Revolution are doing fine, and the Celtics are back in business after so many years. And yesterday was a great example. It started with the Pat’s with who else but future U.S. president Tom Brady, who completely ignored the Redskins existence. And then, at 8:30, the main course, with the Sox fighting hard and winning the World Series.

And a couple of words about the possibility of A-Rod coming to Boston next year in case Mike Lowell goes: I have nothing against A-Rod, but if it ain’t broken, don’t try to fix it. And after Lowell became the World Series MVP last night, and after his great season, the Red Sox organization should make a considrable effort to keep him here.

Lets Go Red Sox

This is the question!!! Thank God for DVR.

Falling Forward To A Sunday of Great Season Premieres

By Beth in Uncategorized, NBC, Heroes, comedy, Comedy Central, ABC, Lost, Hollywood, Dancing With The Stars, FOX, TV, HBO, pop culture, Amaldo.Com, reality TV, celebrity, Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Football, Family Guy, Chuck on September 23 2007

what-2-watch-weekend-edition-922-92407-20070921052034171.jpgI’ve been looking forward to the end of September ever since the beginning of May when I was left wondering just why Charlie may or may not have been killed off the island, how many new Fall shows the Heroes phenomena would spawn, and who would be the next cast of D-list celebs breaking onto the Dancing With The Stars scene.

As it turns out, September is here and the season doesn’t hold better TV than what’s airing today and tomorrow. Tonight marks the return of two of my favorite shows on TV-Simpsons and Family Guy. For those of us who got some sort of interim Simpsons fix this Summer having watched the Simpsons movie, we were left with ravenous appetites which only called more attention to the lingering gap left behind last season after Homer saved Mr. Burns from a fatal mall accident involving a fountain. So now we’re on to this season, Mr. Burns debt of gratitude to Homer and Mr. S taking stock of his life with the help of life coach, Stephen Colbert. (yeah, we’re not kidding) And all this in the first episode of the season…

Tonight’s Family Guy has patriarch Peter Griffin enlisting the help of the Star Wars saga to entertain his family when their power goes out. Brian the dog as Chewbacca and Quagmire as C-3PO have my head spinning already. Not to mention the juxtaposition of life sabers and Darth Vader (Stewie). Well, who better to destroy the Griffin household than Stewie, after all…And while the Curb Your Enthusiasm premiere aired a few weeks ago already, tonight is a new episode in the unfolding dramedy involving Larry, Cheryl, the Dansons, and the Blacks (the family they adopted from the Hurricane).

Conflicts/Footnotes to Sunday night premiere week: Cold Case is back as well tonight and personally, for me, this show is compelling enough (if I can drown out the slow-mo soundtrack of your life anecdotes coupled with the morally righteous preachy ending long enough). One thing this show is a testament to is the power of the band Coldplay. As long as this show is around, that band isn’t going anywhere.Tomorrow night is perhaps one of the most exciting TV premiere days of the week. With the return of Dancing with the Stars and the premiere of the much-anticipated show Chuck, be sure to check back here tomorrow for more of a preview of the two hottest shows of the season.

Till then, get your comedy on for Sunday night! It will help you get thru the work week, or at least put your attitude in the right place.

Coach Belichick Was Right

By ariel in Uncategorized, sports, America, Football, Coach Belichick, Patriots on September 14 2007

Coach Belichick did not cheatI really don’t get it, I don’t understand whats wrong with taking a video of your opponent during the game. The whole purpose in competitive sports is to know your enemy, and find his weakness so you can use it to your benefit. So, filming the other team playing, serve these purposes. I’ve heard this bullshit about fair play. yeah right, like a Football coach or any coach will never tell his team to play the injured player. A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and coaches will always look for that link. Video or not, the Patriots won the game, lets hope they’ll win all of them.
Hope you enjoyed Rosh Hashanna.
