A little while ago Hugh Hefner teased on his Twitter page that Marge Simpson fans would have a treat in store for them in the November issues of Playboy. Turns out as next month’s cover of Playboy reveals (see right), Marge is stripping for her fans.
So does anyone else find is downright bizarre that a relatively benign PG-show like The Simpsons is stooping to this level of debasement? Series creator Matt Groening has always made a serious effort to keep his show from veering down that path, so why now?
Surely one might expect such behavior from a Seth MacFarlane matriarch like Family Guy’s Lois, but Marge has always been way too wholesome and morally upright. I guess even I’ll be tempted to buy next month’s issue - if for nothing else, than sheer curiosity.
One thing’s for sure…November sweeps is coming.

As expected, Heroes‘ season premiere (Heroes Volume 3) picked up from where it stopped. But the show has been away for so long that I’m not sure it’s relevant anymore. Before the writers’ strike, Heroes was one of the main reasons to watch prime time TV. When NBC stopped airing the show we had to find other things to watch instead, and we found. Medium, Dexter, Weeds, Mad Men and a few more showed that good TV can be done even without Hiro Nakamura.
Heroes is still a decent and watchable show, and I was pleased that last night’s episode was more eventful then the last 10 episodes of the first season together, but I would lose the ridiculous countdown-to-the-event show. It’s not New Years.

After drawing a lot of attention, and making headlines with Jennifer Love Hewitt, and the announcement that Zachary Quinto will play Mr. Spock in Star Trek XI, the San Diego annual Comic-Con ended on Sunday, not before a crowd of 4000 exited Heroes fans came to the shows panel on Saturday. The fans went crazy When it was announced that Kevin Smith would direct the first episode of spinoff show Heroes: Origins. According to Reuters, the con will be remembered as the Con at which TV shows eclipsed feature films.
Television’s presence was the strongest it’s ever been at the Con, where the small screen’s influence has been slowly growing since ABC launched “Lost” in 2004, previewing the pilot in a half-full hall. But it was those early fans that helped the show become a buzzworthy hit, and when an unknown show called “Heroes” previewed in 2006 and went on to become one of the biggest new dramas of the season, the Con’s launching pad status was solidified.
For me, to hear the name Kevin Smith and Heroes together makes my day.

According to UGO, Jennifer Love Hewitt have decided to upgrade her career. The actress who’s best known from the TV show Party Of Five, movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer and Shortcut To Happiness, and also for showing a lot of skin as a spokes model for Hanes bras, will appear this Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego to answer questions from her loyal man-fans. She will meet the drooling fans to promote her CBS Vampire drama Ghost Whisperer.

It’s been a long six weeks since “Heroes” left us with a cliffhanging finale -the fates of Mohinder and Peter Petrelli looking more ominous then ever and Skyler, once again reclaiming his hold as master puppeteer of all evil. If I sound like someone who might be well-versed in Star Trek “Star Wars” vernacular and watched superheroes as a kid, I didn’t. But like the rest of my fellow countrymen and women, I’m hooked in this show and when it premieres tonight at 9 PM, I’ll be watching. From the trailers, we already know that Mohinder lives since one of the scenes has him informing Peter’s mom that her son is dead. But the burning question is: When Will The Cheerleader die? Is Peter really dead? Will Claire meet her father (yes, the trailers show us that) And when will my favorite superhero Greg Grunberg (loved him on “Felicity” btw) finally quit the nice guy routine and kick Ali Larter’s butt for good?
So many questions with this show. So little time…
It’s a good thing I had those stranded island folk to keep me busy these past six weeks.

I’m not sure who comedian Andy Kindler knew to get him a relatively steady gig over at Comedy Central, but I want names!! While there are plenty of comedians I don’t find funny, I can usually discern where their humor stems from and who it appeals to. Well, apart from Jimmy Kimmel… Speaking of which, how did Kimmel end up with his own late night talk show and why hasn’t Adam Sandler usurped that position yet? And furthermore how did Kindler land “Letterman”? After reading about Andy Kindler on Comedy Central and yes I’m only mildly obsessed with its blog, I checked out Kindler’s comics (yawn), read his blog (accessible thru his site), and even hit his None of The Above page seeking some sort of comedic relief in the form of non sequiturs. At the very end of which I was left with these words from his March 1 entry.
Hi friends. It’s March already. Can you believe it? Just yesterday it seemed like February 28. If the Roman Calendar is so great, why is one month out of whack? If the Romans were so fantastic, they would still be in charge. Obviously I know nothing about calendars or history or anything, but that doesn’t stop me. Things are really picking up. I sold all of my winter inventory, and am getting ready for the spring line. My chain of fast food cold cereal restaurants are spreading like things that spread. Stay tuned for more fake announcements. If you can’t stay tuned, join the club. The out of tune club.
So I’m assuming this blurb from his April 2 post about his “secret” falls in the realm of fake announcements, but I’ll post it here anyways:
Soon I will be releasing the Comedy Secret. Do you want to be a world famous comedian? Just close your eyes and say over and over to yourself: “I’m hilarious. I’m hilarious.” Now visualize yourself performing your act in front of thousands of people in an inappropriately huge stadium. The crowd is laughing uncontrollably and slapping their knees. You must have just told a knee slapper. Now write yourself a check for ten million dollars and stick it in your pocket. Don’t cash it yet. You don’t have sufficient funds. Then go enter a “Last Comic Standing” type contest, and wait for the money to pour in. If it doesn’t pour in, give up.
I enjoy “Last Comic Standing” way too much to qualify this last statement. I will say this though: Kindler’s comedy has me starting to believe that Dane Cook might actually be funny even if the majority of his routines are simply aimed at appealing to the lowest common denominator.
