Because it’s never too late to think about “trialing” new vocations and you’ve got nothing but time on your hands when your producers are picking up your $3340/night villa tab (not to mention the $410/day on handlers), Amy Winehouse has taken to a bit of volunteerism - setting her mind on healing the inhabitants of St. Lucia.
WInehouse has been in the news lately for making even more random, off-colored comments (no pun intended) than usual, but then again, envisioning Amy as a candy striper prepping meals, visiting expectant mothers, and handing out medicines seems the most far-fetched role to date.
Whatever the case may be, here’s hoping that Amy keeps her head up amidst the trashy news of her husband’s bastard baby. Focusing on people who have learned to live with a little less might be just what the doctor ordered.
Remember your worst nightmare? The one involving you being discarded like yesterday’s trash and easily replaced? The one where you woke and realized that thankfully you weren’t dispensible or at the very least, it was all just a dream, but secretly questioning and doubting your abilities and cringing at your assessment of you self-worth?
Maybe these neurotic tendencies only creep up on me. It’s possible. As I was watching VH1 today, however, and seeing this new 20-year-old chanteuse from North London being hailed as the “new Amy Winehouse,” I had to sneak a listen to her. I also had to ask myself that why in an industry as vast as music, do we need to go around and recycle the same names. Winehouse was able to breathe new life into soul music and put it back on the map. She should be credited as such, in spite of all her drug-laden shenanigans. The girl’s got raw talent. Her predecessors are simply jumping on the over-crowded bandwagon.
And while the singer known as Adele (having your last name dropped from a label eliminates all those ugly pesky ethnic associations) might be more of a promising gamble in the professionalism dept. and she shares some things in common with Amy -notably they graduated from the same performing arts school and share a producer, Mark Ronson, Adele is no Amy, “chasing pavements” and all.
But you be the judge and listen and compare below.
Amy Winehouse is going to model in London Fashion Week in September. Designer Julien MacDonald wants to sign her because of her ” great style” and because ” She’s unique.”
Therefore, I ask again:
Amy Winehouse and her producer Mark Ronson won’t be teaming up for any theme songs to any motion pictures anytime soon. The two were slated to make some more beautiful music together - this time for the upcoming James Bond film, “Quantum of Solace.” Unfortunately for the Bond franchise and Amy fans, Ronson doesn’t feel Winehouse is ready to resume recording sessions for the song.
“We tried to work for a little bit,” he told Sky News. “I’m not sure she’s ready to work on music yet.”
Ronson, who produced much of the troubled singer’s Back to Black album, also said it was unlikely work on the Quantum of Solace track would continue “unless by some miracle of science it gets recorded and someone sings a vocal on it”.
He added: “We did work on it but we never finished it so that’s about it.”

I did not watch the Grammy Awards. I was experiencing some unprofessional treatment by a verity of Airport employees. But even if I didn’t have this pleasure, I doubt if I would have watched the event. i just don’t like this kind of shows.
However, when I found out that Amy Winehouse, one of this blog’s favorite singers picked FIVE(!) Grammys, and also looked kinda OK on the screen, I was happy. Although at first, she could not get a visa to the US, and by the time she got it, it was to late for her to come, she still managed to pull out a show via satellite (So I’ve been told…) When she sang her most famous song, Rehab.
So, this is Amy’s time now. If she’ll know to take it easy on the alcohol and the drugs, and for God’s sake, grab a bite, she can have a great future.

“Love you handsome, gorgeous one” shouted the now blond Winehouse to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil in a London court where he had his hearing. Amy almost missed Blake’s court appearance, and arrived just five minutes to the end. To the reporters she only said: ” I am not talking to you.”
Then she was led out by Georgette Fielder-Civil, Blake’s mother, who gave her take on Winehouse condition by saying: “She’s fine, thank you.”
The good news is, that after this drama, instead of getting a drink, Amy went to one of her favorite places: McDonald’s. These are good news because if to judge by what she looks like in recent photos, a burger is exactly what she needs.
Amy Winehouse, now with a new hair, is working on hersinging skills with her dad to improve her self confidence. A source told Showbiz Spy that:“She often has friends round for drinks and inevitably most of the time she ends up singing. One night Mitch (Amy’s dad) joined in and Amy loved it. They had a great giggle and it really made her feel good about herself so Mitch wants to repeat the experience as often as possible.” It’s also a good practice before her scheduled appearance at the Grammies next month. If to judge by this picture, it looks like the problem is not her singing or her hair cut, she is in a dyer need of a good meal, make it two.

Despite the wide varity of her recent issues, Amy is eager to perform in the show. One of the singer’s reps told People Magazine, “Amy is thrilled to be nominated for six Grammys and is very much hoping to attend. She is determined to be ready and well for that performance. It’s a really difficult time and she’s been channeling it into her music.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt, who just recently announced her engagement to actor Ross McCall is now suffering the wrath of all sorts of gossip websites, and all because of some unflattering pictures of her that appeared on the cover of People Magazine, wearing a bikini … If this new obsession with Love Hewitt’s butt suggests that we’ll hear less about Britney’s, it’s great, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen…
Our dear Amy has canceled her UK tour by her Doctor’s order…, and said that she can’t do it “without my Blake”. Her Blake (her husband- Blake Fielder- Civil) is now in prison and waiting to see what will happen with his case. Meanwhile, NME reports that Amy’s dad, Mitch Winehouse say that his daughter is considering entering rehab to take care of her drug problems. And I say Yes Yes Yes.
Amy Winehouse’s new album Frank was originally released in the UK in 2003. As it often happen with British musicians, it took some time for Amy to get some recognition here in America, but now everybody knows who she is (”There is no such thing as bad publicity, except your own obituary…Brendan Behan) and Frank is now being sold in the US as her new album.
Howard Cohen from Kansascity.com wrote that Frank is “a more stripped-down, jazzy effort… finds the edgy British singer rivaling greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt and Lauryn Hill with her silky, smoky voice.”"Winehouse’s voice is a jazz instrument in itself, constantly riffing around, exploring and enhancing blues chords while staying fully anchored, seemingly unable to hit a sour note. Those who would blanch at comparisons of Winehouse to timeless jazz and blues chanteuses surely haven’t heard her sing.”
I’m totally on the same page with Mr. Cohen here. Amy Winehouse’s voice belongs on that list.
Amy’s family are so freaked out about the possibility that their daughter will do something stupid after her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil got arrested, and because she is after all, Amy Winehouse, that they had to call the police when they couldn’t get a hold of her last night. “Amy’s family are petrified she’ll do something stupid. They know she’s very low at the moment and misses Blake terribly.” A “source” told the Daily Mail.
Brian Williams did a very good job as the host of Saturday Night Live. He’s got an excellent sense of timing, and together with a natural acting skill, he was very amusing. On the musical side, it was Feist, who gave an interesting and solid performance. During the show It was announced that next week musical guest will be Amy Winehouse. Ok, so we’re all a little tired of the cult of the female pop-rock starlet on self-destruct (w/debris oozing out of their minute coke-clogged pores) but kudos go again this week to Amy Winehouse, who, rather than go the route of most of her predecessors and launch her own perfume line, had her road manager launch a line of whiskey as an homage to Winehouse.
The story goes something like this (some licenses taken with the paraphrasing): Amy gets crabby while on the road and is itching for a hit (either in the form of coke or her husband’s face). She calls her road manager into her van and says, “Yos, whaszup. Where’s me blow.” [insert Ali G-style curses and affectations] Whereupon her manager informs her not only is she out of the powder, but every form of alcohol known to man, woman, and superfreak. Amy, not happy, throws her empty bottle of JD at her manager. Fortunately, it hit the part of his head that’s responsible for extorting more money from his boss. He comes up with a brilliant idea: Market more witch brew, er, um in layman’s terms: Shut up the whiny, overly demanding diva.
To celebrate the launch of this new bourbon, Airborne, Amy was on hand to show her support. Namely do her trademark drunk man’s saunter on and off the stage, mutter profanities and aim some more whiskey bottles into the crowd, all in the name of self-promotion, not to mention brilliant marketing strategy, if I do say so myself…
This week in pop culture was all about people who have a lot to lose and they are just about to lose it. Even though I have seen a thing or two in my life, I was very surprised about Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt and even more, to learn that he is a junkie. For him and for his family and friends, I hope he reached the bottom, and he understands where he is. I hear he canceled his appearance in the new comedy ‘Tropic Thunder’. I hope he can now concentrate on his recovery. Amy Winehouse didn’t reach rock bottom yet, but she is definitely on the way to disaster. While Owen Wilson tried to get rid of the habit times and times before, Amy just don’t care. First she canceled her North American tour, then she canceled her performance in the MTV Video Music Awards. Winehouse is very talented, but she is also very young and unstable, and she is with someone who’s personality is not much different then hers. Amy is going in and out of rehab, fights with her man, and living a miserable life. Some characters of Amy Winehouse’s story remind me of the Kurt Cobain story.
She needs to take real good care of herself, before her career and life will be a mach, that burns strong at first, but seconds later, there is nothing left, all is ashes.
Adding to the leak of damaging and discouraging Amy Winehouse photos/news of late, Winehouse’s dad has now entered into the paparazzi mixploitationgiving an interview to the BBC earlier today, which read like a sincere enough plea for help on behalf of his daughter. Concerned father or not, Mitch is clearly in denial about a few things regarding his daughter’s history of emotional health. First off, Mitch states (in the transcript) that Amy only started using hardcore drugs in the past few mos and that prior to this, she prided herself on being “clean”. The girl has been spiraling down on a drug-frenzied journey for at least a year now. Also, given the combination of eating disorder, potential spousal abuse, and drugs, it’s quite obvious she’s self-medicating and self-destructing at the same time. That sh*t doesn’t happen overnight.
If, as Mitch Winehouse is quick to relay, the record companies are really looking out for Amy’s best interest in canceling her tour dates and ensuring a speedier and healthier recovery period for the gifted singer, then props to them. Somehow Mitch Winehouse’s careful finessing of certain high density media outlets at opportune times makes me think he might quietly be relishing all this attention. I hope time prove me wrong. Lord know we have enough celebrity whore fathers out there…
So Amy checks in and out of rehab, mysterious health problems that lead to hospital visits, and weird late night hotel stays is all we hear. Now it seems as if one of our favorite singer’s problems are getting worse. The music news site NME reports today that Winehouse’s North American tour was postponed until early next year. In a statement Tracy Miller, Amy’s publicist said: “Due to the rigors involved in touring, Amy Winehouse has been advised to postpone her upcoming September U.S. and Canadian tour dates, Amy’s European and U.K. tour dates in October and November remain in place. Plans are being made to reschedule her U.S. tour for early 2008. Until then, Amy has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health.” Take it easy Amy, we hope you will get better soon.
NME reports that our beloved MOT equivalent of Diana Ross, aka Amy Winehouse is currently in a hotel in London recovering from what appears to have been a drug overdose.
Reports have suggested that Winehouse suffered from a drug overdose at 1am on Wednesday (August , and was treated with an adrenaline shot before her stomach was pumped.
Anyone else find it mildly perplexing that Amy is convalescing in the warm, homey environs of a hotel? Anyways, talk-of-town post OD rumors was the Amy was entering rehab, but as fate would have it, her publicist dismissed that rumor with a “no, no, no.”
Winehouse overdosed on August 10th. Only two days earlier, she was nominated for 3 MTV VMA awards including Female Artist of the Year and and Video of the Year. Precluding any potential rumor of Winehouse succumbing to the pressure, and falling prey to its folly, one can only hope she’s emotionally and mentally in better shape when Grammy nomination time comes.
Amy Winehouse and husband Blake are thinking of coming to America and settle in Miami, where they got married. I just hope that the often use of a swimsuit will stop her from carving names on her skin.
Ok, so Amy Winehouse and Scottish bloke singer Paolo Nutini are already slated to tour together (we’re always the last to know…), but who knew the duo might have such complimentary voices? Cause it also relates to Amy Winehouse and it just so happens that the Nutini video montage also features audio of the singer doing a cover of Amy Winehouse’s Rehab. And after listening to this cover, you’ll be hard-pressed to find two other white people (and one Jewish at that) who do Soul as well, at least in today’s emerging music scene. Sufficed to say, I’d love to see these two on tour together.
