Fall Lineup

Zachary Levi is ChuckThis week on TV was all about the fall lineup with new shows and season premiers.Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton in Back To You If you have read this blog in the past, it is needless to mention how much I waited for the return of my favorite shows Heroes and The Office. While the first was somewhere between OK and good, The Office was hilarious, and proved once again that it is the best TV show in a very long time. I also tried to watch as many new shows as possible, and I realized that A. NBC tries harder. and B. Most of what I saw didn’t have an original and refreshing feel to it, and I doubt if they will be watched again on our TV. There are almost two exceptions here. Fox’s Back To You with Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, and NBC’s Chuck with Zachary Levi. The Back To You pilot was not so good but I felt some sort of chemistry between the two veteran actors. From what I read, only six episodes were filmed, and I’m not sure if the show will last beyond it. Chuck was a success. It wasn’t great but it was well done. Everything was in place, the story is good, and the actors are likable.

Fall Season Preview: Monday Night Delivers

By Beth in Entertainment, NBC, Heroes, comedy, ABC, Hollywood, Dancing With The Stars, CBS, Posh, pop culture, celebrity, gossip, Victoria Beckham on September 24 2007

No doubt Monday nights will be my favorite TV night of the week. Why? Just read below and piece together the clues.

8-9 PM EDT

Chuck: A nerdy secret agent (in the form of a computer geek salesman) going undercover in a screwball comedy that elicits memories of SledgeHammer? I’m in…

How I Met Your Mother: If you can get thru another season of buying Neil Patrick Harris as a misogynist heterosexual player, why not?

Dancing With The Stars: Marie Osmond, Wayne Newton, Mark Cuban, Mel B, and Kelly from 90210 all in one action-packed, self-effacing hour? Ok, make that two hours a week, but hey, it’s a guaranteed upgrade for most of these celebs.

9-10 PM EDT

Heroes: “It” girl Veronica Mars aka Kristen Bell joins the cast this season and for those of us who caught a glimpse of Bell (on Gossip Girl), earlier on this season, it might be a welcome cast. Someone’s gotta save the world, anyways, and it aint gonna be the cheerleader.

10-11 PM EDT

Weeds: It may have started a few weeks ago already, but Mary-Kate Olsen plays a bad girl/dope-addicted nympho in this episode and hey, why should you limit your Monday nights to one reality TV show?

Journeyman: Cause if I had TiVo, I’d be all over this Quantum Leapish show. As is I’ll be flipping coins with my husband for the coveted 10:30 slot, which may end up going to Californication.

Falling Forward To A Sunday of Great Season Premieres

By Beth in Uncategorized, NBC, Heroes, comedy, Comedy Central, ABC, Lost, Hollywood, Dancing With The Stars, FOX, TV, HBO, pop culture, Amaldo.Com, reality TV, celebrity, Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Football, Family Guy, Chuck on September 23 2007

what-2-watch-weekend-edition-922-92407-20070921052034171.jpgI’ve been looking forward to the end of September ever since the beginning of May when I was left wondering just why Charlie may or may not have been killed off the island, how many new Fall shows the Heroes phenomena would spawn, and who would be the next cast of D-list celebs breaking onto the Dancing With The Stars scene.

As it turns out, September is here and the season doesn’t hold better TV than what’s airing today and tomorrow. Tonight marks the return of two of my favorite shows on TV-Simpsons and Family Guy. For those of us who got some sort of interim Simpsons fix this Summer having watched the Simpsons movie, we were left with ravenous appetites which only called more attention to the lingering gap left behind last season after Homer saved Mr. Burns from a fatal mall accident involving a fountain. So now we’re on to this season, Mr. Burns debt of gratitude to Homer and Mr. S taking stock of his life with the help of life coach, Stephen Colbert. (yeah, we’re not kidding) And all this in the first episode of the season…

Tonight’s Family Guy has patriarch Peter Griffin enlisting the help of the Star Wars saga to entertain his family when their power goes out. Brian the dog as Chewbacca and Quagmire as C-3PO have my head spinning already. Not to mention the juxtaposition of life sabers and Darth Vader (Stewie). Well, who better to destroy the Griffin household than Stewie, after all…And while the Curb Your Enthusiasm premiere aired a few weeks ago already, tonight is a new episode in the unfolding dramedy involving Larry, Cheryl, the Dansons, and the Blacks (the family they adopted from the Hurricane).

Conflicts/Footnotes to Sunday night premiere week: Cold Case is back as well tonight and personally, for me, this show is compelling enough (if I can drown out the slow-mo soundtrack of your life anecdotes coupled with the morally righteous preachy ending long enough). One thing this show is a testament to is the power of the band Coldplay. As long as this show is around, that band isn’t going anywhere.Tomorrow night is perhaps one of the most exciting TV premiere days of the week. With the return of Dancing with the Stars and the premiere of the much-anticipated show Chuck, be sure to check back here tomorrow for more of a preview of the two hottest shows of the season.

Till then, get your comedy on for Sunday night! It will help you get thru the work week, or at least put your attitude in the right place.

The Best Part Of The Emmys

By Beth in Lost, The Office, Hollywood, FOX, TV, The View, The Sopranos, HBO, pop culture, Steve Carell, reality TV, celebrity, Ryan Seacrest, The Emmys on September 16 2007

Steve Carell was the highlight of the Emmys as was seeing the cast of The Office before the show’s season premiere gets underway next week. The worst part, this year’s choice of host:

As a side note, we all get how big The Sopranos was as both a TV and cultural phenomenon, but does the show need to be nominated in the same category (Best Writing) for four different episodes? How well does that bode for the crew of Lost and Battlestar Gallactica - the only two other shows nominated.

Coach Belichick Was Right

By ariel in Uncategorized, sports, America, Football, Coach Belichick, Patriots on September 14 2007

Coach Belichick did not cheatI really don’t get it, I don’t understand whats wrong with taking a video of your opponent during the game. The whole purpose in competitive sports is to know your enemy, and find his weakness so you can use it to your benefit. So, filming the other team playing, serve these purposes. I’ve heard this bullshit about fair play. yeah right, like a Football coach or any coach will never tell his team to play the injured player. A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and coaches will always look for that link. Video or not, the Patriots won the game, lets hope they’ll win all of them.
Hope you enjoyed Rosh Hashanna.

Ilana Donna + Dolly = Long-Term Potential?

By Beth in Entertainment, Female Empowerment, pop culture, Amaldo.Com, social networking, Ilana Donna, dog, rescue dog on September 13 2007

Amaldo.com video blogger Ilana Donna thought she was ready for a live-in. So she found her rescue pup Dolly. They were ready to euthanize her. Instead, she got to stay with Ilana. What a treat! I think?

We’re just happy Ilana’s vlogging again…And that she meets a nice “companion” very soon.

Just Two Weeks

The Office  Heroes and Hayden are coming back

In about two weeks, my favorite shows, Heroes and The Office, both from NBC are coming back for a new season. The Office is probably the best TV made in America, and Heroes, when the producers and writers step out of the soapy cube, is not far behind. In general I feel that the folks at NBC really try harder. With new shows like Bionic Woman, Journeyman, Chuck and Life, and with the return of shows like My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock and even The Biggest Loser (the only worth watching realty show,) it seems like the network’s fall lineup is going to be very interesting.

Robert Plant these daysCan’t belive I’m writing about this again, but it is confirmed that Robert, Jimmy, John Paul, and Jason will play in memory of Ahmet Etegun , Atlantic Records founder. Tickets will cost 125 British Pound about $250 and will be distributed by ballot. Due to past disapointments, I dare not think about a tour option.

Led Zeppelin, not a recent photo...

Bully Sarah

Sarah Silverman MTVBritney and Paris, Sarah Silverman's foodSarah Silverman will always be remembered as the comedian who aimed high, and went after the strong. The same way she went after Paris Hilton just days before she went to jail. This time it was Britney Spears. While the comeback wannabe singer did a very good job in embarrassing herself on the MTV Music Awards, Sarah Silverman would not let go and kicked her ass. When someone is on his low you either help or stay out, but not our bully Sarah, she will keep on hurting, over and over. We said it in this blog before, Silverman suck big time. And bully Sarah is full of BS.

What can you do, we can’t all be funny, right?

Tom Brady will lead the New England Patriots

Just wanted to wish a happy NFL season to everyone, especially to all of the New England Patriots fans all over the world. Although I hope that Brett Favre will brake a few more records, I expect Tom Brady to bring the title.
So good luck and Shana Tova.

Led Zeppelin will not reunite

All of a sudden the rumors come up again, rising from deep like a glitter of gold, sneak on you like a black dog, but when you prepare your self for a day of celebration, you find out it was just another breakdown in communication, and you are left dazed and confused, asking your self how many more times you will believe this crap about a Led Zeppelin reunion?

There’s Nothing Harder Than Being A Black Jew?

By Beth in comedy, Sarah Silverman, Comedy Central, Hollywood, TV, pop culture, media, MTV, celebrity, Perez Hilton on September 4 2007

Sarah Silverman is everywhere in entertainment news as of late. Headlining a Vegas show, starring in some lame arthouse flick, and now, with the return of her show on Comedy Central, The Sarah Silverman Program. I’d respect Sarah a bit more if her act/humor didn’t solely rely on her ability to provoke without any comedic substance or wit of any kind. That, and I couldn’t help but notice that every article that made mention of Silverman’s latest movie I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With mostly alluded to words such as “striptease” and “skivvies” when describing the movie. That can’t bode well for the remaining hour and half of the film.

Sarah is already making waves these days for the controversy surrounding the premise of the season premiere of her show.  The racially-charged episode features Sarah donning a black face after she is denied entrance (for being Jewish, according to her) into a club and runs into a black waiter who makes the comment, “Try being Black for a day.” Well, you get where the plot goes from there. After all, I wouldn’t wanna ruin the surprise.

Michelle & Heath Beat Katie & Tom To The Divorce Lawyer

By Beth in Entertainment, Hollywood, love & lies, pop culture, media, celebrity, gossip on September 2 2007

(Read here about Heath Ledger’s sudden death)

Way back in the day (like high school), I used to watch Dawson’s Creek and enjoy the delightful Michelle Williams. She went on to bigger onscreen success (Brokeback Mountain), a stylish makeover, and a hunky, devoted, talented actor who wanted nothing more than to spend time with his beautiful wife and their little Matilda. Hey, at least the kid’s name isn’t Apple.

Well, flash forward 2 years and Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger have called it quits, citing the usual “growing apart” bit. Whatever the reasons, I want to see this couple back together. Like yesterday. There’s been enough tragedy for one week. Can’t we just all get along for once?

Desperado

By ariel in Uncategorized, Entertainment, Money, Movies, Amy Winehouse, Music, media, MTV, celebrity, Owen Wilson, Curt Cabain on September 1 2007

Wake up, Owen WilsonThis week in pop culture was all about people who have a lot to lose and they are just about to lose it. Even though I Amy Winehouse in better dayshave seen a thing or two in my life, I was very surprised about Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt and even more, to learn that he is a junkie. For him and for his family and friends, I hope he reached the bottom, and he understands where he is. I hear he canceled his appearance in the new comedy ‘Tropic Thunder’. I hope he can now concentrate on his recovery. Amy Winehouse didn’t reach rock bottom yet, but she is definitely on the way to disaster. While Owen Wilson tried to get rid of the habit times and times before, Amy just don’t care. First she canceled her North American tour, then she canceled her performance in the MTV Video Music Awards. Winehouse is very talented, but she is also very young and unstable, and she is with someone who’s personality is not much different then hers. Amy is going in and out of rehab, fights with her man, and living a miserable life. Some characters of Amy Winehouse’s story remind me of the Kurt Cobain story.

Amy Winehouse's story remindes me of the Curt Cobain story
She needs to take real good care of herself, before her career and life will be a mach, that burns strong at first, but seconds later, there is nothing left, all is ashes.
